These things are rock hard. There's no way I would try to catch one of these bare-handed, much less let my kids play with them. As soon as I received them I ordered 2 Easton Incrediball 16" softballs instead. These are much mushier, and much more like the balls we played mushball with in school. I suppose serious Chicago-style softball players may prefer the MacGregor version, but for casual games with players of various skill levels definitely go with the Easton version. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By Mark P. This review is from: MacGregor Chicago 16" Softball (Sports) I purchased two softballs and they were a hit at my wife's family reunion. You don't need gloves (although, you could use them). Just a bat and the balls will allow you to play. We use the rule bounce or fly; catch the ball on a single bounce or fly & the batter's out. Highly recommended. P.S. Yes, I grew up in Chicago. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: MacGregor Chicago 16" Softball (Sports) THIS WAS AWESOME... WE USED THEM ON A MISSION TRIP WHERE THE KIDS DID NOT HAVE GLOVES AND THE BALL IS SOFT ENOUGH TO CATCH BARE HANDED BUT STILL HITS LIKE A REGULAR SOFTBALL |
